It’s a simple matter. When you have a trailer you need to have a Tow Vehicle.
We love to have space and we’re often tempted to go bigger in almost all we do. This is true in the home we chose, with it’s wide open floor plan. It’s also true in our choice of vehicles. Back in 2002(or so) we took our, then, 15 month old on a cross country trip. We were driving a Volkswagen Passat Wagon at that time. It was a perfect daily driver but wasn’t going to be the most comfortable for a long road trip with a toddler. Fortunately we were able to borrow a full size conversion van for the trip. It was awesome. Captains chairs in the second row, plenty of leg room to allow for longer driving days.
We never quite forgot that comfort. It would be quite a few years before we managed to work our way back up to the full size van. Eventually it did happen. We knew we wanted to tow, even though we had nothing to tow at the time. After some research we decided that the Nissan NV was going to be the right choice for us.
Our Tow Vehicle – Nissan NV 3500 Passenger
With a tow rating of 8700 lbs and incredibly flexible passenger seating we can do long trips without hearing the dreaded words “are we there yet” over and over again. We have removed a row of seating, opening up an immense amount of storage space in the rear of the vehicle. This is also our primary family vehicle. It’s big, it’s tough to park, and we love it all the same.
There may not be any glamour here but we do have heated leather seats, navigation, bluetooth connection to our phones for calls and audio, and a shiny chrome trim package. We don’t feel that we had to make compromises in bells and whistles. The one thing we added since it wasn’t a factory option was remote start.
The story of how we managed to get the van will be posted as a memory on the blog at some point. It was quite an experience! We do thank those at Apple Nissan for an amazing experience.
Now that we have a trailer to tow, we’re so glad to have this as our Tow Vehicle.
